What we liked
- + Slate holds heat evenly for a warm basking surface
- + Wooden support raises the rock toward the lamp
- + Natural materials look better than resin in desert setups
Trade-offs
- - Slate can get very hot, so control the lamp with a thermostat
- - Wood may darken or crack with heat over time
